Developing Happiness – Optimism and Pessimism – Does it really matter?

There are lots of things that can help us in our search for happiness, Join Patricia for this 45 min webinar which will give a brief introduction to happiness and then focus on how your thinking style of optimism or pessimism can influence how happy you can be.

Wed August 5th  - 10 – 11am

Conflict Management – A way to navigate  through differences

Conflict Management:

Conflict is a word that creates all kinds of responses in us.  Many people don’t like conflict.  Lots of people shy away from conflict.  Some people will do almost anything to avoid conflict.  In our world conflict is often synonomous with trouble and therefore so many of us want nothing to do with it.  Yet our lives are full of conflict because we are surrounded with difference.
In our Webinar we will look at how we can navigate our way through these differences and  how we can experience conflict in a non-threatening way.  We may never grow to love conflict but maybe we can learn not to fear it in our future.  Join us for 45 mins that could unlock a key that might just empower you to live a more peaceful life where conflict is no longer something to fear.

Thur August 6th – 12 – 1pm

Goal Setting and Action Planning

So did you ever feel like your life is just drifting slowly by, no real purpose, no real intent?  Sometimes it feels like we are just waiting for things to happen.  Well, what if we lived a life where we are in the driving seat? Where we purposefully plan, prepare, measure and manage our progress.  Sound interesting?
Join us on this Webinar and discover the power and purpose of goal setting.

Fri August 7th – 3 – 4pm

Emotional Happiness – A call for more

We often look outward for happiness and whilst it can be found in many things, Join Patricia for Part 2 of the Happiness Webinars that explores how you can develop and build a more lasting level of happiness in your life by looking at the qualities that make up this often elusive topic and how to harness them.

FREE TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR ELDERLY DURING COVID-19

Posted on 23 Apr 2020
A group of volunteers have come together to help the elderly in our communities who are 'cocooning' and isolated due to the COVID-19 crisis, with free over the phone help to resolve any IT or technical issues they have.
This is a free service, and as such, no-one will be asked for any personal details such as access to their bank details, cards etc. Call distribution will be done randomly and recorded. The twitter feed is also logged.
As a completely free service, all time is donated by volunteers, as is the work and equipment provided by Phone Pulse, and the Twitter assistance provided by Social Media Strategist, Speaker and Author Samantha Kelly.

Meditation with Simone

Here is this weeks Meditation with Simone
We hope you enjoy it!

Hello from Simone,

I hope you are doing fine.

Please sit down for this meditation. Ideally listen with headphones for better sound quality.

Today's meditation is an invitation to actively engage with the meditation practise with toning, if you wish.

As suggested it's an invitation to tone with me during this meditation practise. See how you are getting on and how does it feel when you tone along with me.

Find a place where you are on your own to practise today's meditation. You can't get a wrong tone or note, just free yourself and have the intention "I give it a try and this is good enough for this moment" in your mind.

Meditation with Simone

This week's sound meditation with Simone!

Hello from Simone,
I hope you are doing fine.

My new sound meditation recording is called "Happy sweet spot meditation", which is similar to the inner-smile-meditation from last week, but yet different.
Please listen with headphones if you can.
This is a wonderful sound meditation which can be done anytime you want even without guidance.

Remembering joyful, happy moments in your life and feeling them in your body in the present moment.

Enjoy discovering and re-connecting to this sweet spot of happiness. This is your own centre of happiness.
Practical experience:
What makes you happy? What are the small things in your life that makes you feel happy?
How do you feel when you feel happy?

If you experience happiness on a smaller or bigger scale say it out loud "This ... makes me feel happy"

Competition Entry 3

We asked members what they were looking forward to after lockdown, here's entry number 3

End of Lockdown
                                                                            by Bernie Hayes

When we’re given the green light signalling the end of lockdown.
Have to break through, won’t be so sad. Live and know yourself better.
Healed by time, when we say goodbye to lockdown.
The world will know we can give again. We should let it show. We should trust in our abilities. You can get up again. Let your light shine on. God has a bigger plan for everyone. Move with the flow. Let go of your worries. You can carry on.

Meditation with Simone

This week's Meditation recording with tutor Simone...

Hello everyone,
I hope you are doing fine. Today's meditation is an Inner-smile-meditation.  Please listen with headphones if you can.
"What sunshine is to flowers, smiles are to humanity" (Joseph Addison).
Enjoy smiling inwards, towards yourself, your organs and by letting go of any negative emotions you might hold in your organs. Allow a golden smile wash over and through you.
Breathe and smile.
Enjoy!

Practical experience:
Try to smile to yourself in the morning in the mirror and see how you feel. Even if you fake the smile see how you feel.

Try also to smile to a stranger on the street and see how you feel. Might your smile has a ripple effect and ripples out to others.
How can it get better than this?

A mixed bag of activity for July with Gateway

Hi folks,

We've developed a mixture of online and outdoor activities and meet ups to connect with people throughout the month while we wait to reopen the Gateway space in Parker Hill and hope this can happen very soon - we will keep everyone posted.  Thanks to everyone for your patience and kind emails and cards in the mean time, we appreciate everyone's well wishes, chocolates and peer support.

If you'd like to book in for any of the meet ups or walks or sign up for Zoom times, please call us on 085 7521220 or text.

For anyone meeting up in person we really need to emphasise the importance of keeping up our physical/social distancing, so that's a 2 metre / 6 foot distance between people at all times please folks!  Groups at the moment through Gateway can have a max of 5 people plus a volunteer / facilitator / project worker.  We also ask people who want to join in person to complete a short confidential health survey over the phone beforehand, this is to make sure everyone is well and kept safe.  The survey questions are below and can be done on the phone or by email through info@gatewaymha.com - we are sorry to have to ask these questions but it is the only way we can come together again in person as everyone's health and safety is really important and needs to be protected as best we can.  For anyone who is in a high risk group, the government advice is to continue to cocoon - check the list here: people-at-higher-risk info.  We'll be doing a bit of awareness training too this month so when people do get to return to the building that everyone is clear about what's required of each and every one of us to keep people safe and reduce the risk of covid infection.  A huge thank you to everyone for your support and feedback into our new Gateway COVID-19 policy and reopening plans for Gateway's facilities so far, these are available to any who would like them on the links provided here or we can email or post out.

Here's a look at the schedule for July, let us know your thoughts and ideas - what topic should we discuss for the important conversations zoom this month...  life after lockdown?

Art and meditation will continue through this blog in the mean time - thanks to Simone and Niamh for all their hard work and adapting to the changes so generously.  The ukulele group will start through a small group socially distanced meet up this month with Ealain, so if you ordered a uke, keep an eye on your texts as this will be happening on a dry day very soon!

Best wishes and solidarity to all,
The Gateway Team
