CE Vacancies at Gateway - September 2020

Gateway is a peer and member led community development project and we are hoping to find some interested people to join the project team as a trainee through Community Employment.  We have a couple of vacancies for trainee project workers at the moment which will mean receiving training and mentoring and developing and building on a range of skills in project work in a community setting, group facilitation, peer support, planning and organising, admin and more.  These roles are part time for 19.5 hours per week and require certain eligibility criteria to be met prior to applying so check with intreo to see if you would be eligible.  Shortlisting, reference check and garda vetting will also apply for successful applicants.  
We are looking for hands on people with an interest in working with people and in mental health and community development / community projects like ours.  The role involves working with others from a place of equality and respect, working as part of a team, engaging in peer support in person and over the phone, supporting, planning and facilitating small group activities and supporting our drop in space to run smoothly and safely during these strange times and in accordance with the needs and interests of our members and the values of the project.

 As part of S.T.A.N’S Positive Mental Health Festival, we have organised a webinar with Dr. Harry Barry, a Doctor and Best-Selling Author on Mental Health Dr. Harry Barry is an experienced medical doctor who qualified in 1976 and has worked as a senior GP within the Irish Health System for over thirty-five years. 


He has a long-standing interest in mental health especially the management of anxiety, depression and toxic stress, as well as the prevention of suicide. Dr. Barry is especially interested in the concept of emotional resilience and how developing skills in this area could transform our mental health. He has developed a holistic approach with an emphasis on the combination of Neuroscience concepts, lifestyle changes and drug therapy with the application of simple CBT approaches to effectively manage these approaches. He retired from general practice in 2013 to focus solely on mental health. 

Dr. Barry has written extensively on the subject and his series of books have been widely read by professional and lay people interested in the area. Dr. Barry is a regular contributor to national press and media and is a monthly contributor to the Sean O’Rourke show for almost four years. Shine - Support Groups

Shine is launching a Pilot Online Relatives Support Group and an Online Support Group for people with lived experience of mental health difficulties. 

This pilot online groups will be co-facilitated by Shine staff and a Shine Peer facilitator. They will run for 8 weeks with no more than 12 participants. 


The Relatives Online Group starts 25th Sept 11am - 12pm. The Support Group for those with lived experience starts Wednesday 23rd Sept, from 12- 1pm. Anyone can register their interest here: https://www.shine.ie/shine-support-groups-online/
