Aware have their own Solace Café!

I am delighted to let you know that Aware are opening their Solace Café this coming Friday, 24th May.

The café will be opening on a phased basis, with a full service intended from late June onwards.

The café will be operating out of Urbun Café in Cabinteely, and on Thursdays to Sundays from 5-10pm.  (The actual Urbun Café will be closed to the public during Solace Café operating times, the Solace Café team are merely using their premises)

It is intended for any adult experiencing a mental health crisis, supporting someone in crisis or experiencing a mental health difficulty that is causing emotional overwhelm or a feeling of being unable to cope. The friendly Solace Café team will welcome you in a warm, supportive environment and support you through listening, signposting and crisis resolution skills.

Please do book ahead on the day through their website solacecafe.ie (website operational from Friday!) – this is to ensure that the service isn’t crowded in any particular moment and everyone gets the attention they deserve.

The Solace Café is delivered by Aware in partnership with St. John of God’s Community Mental Health Services and the HSE and I am truly thrilled it is finally happening. It will be a most wonderful addition to mental health services offered in the area, and a great alternative to A&E during mental health crises that don’t require medical attention.

With upcoming elections on the horizon, we want to know what your priorities are for mental health, both for the elections (local/European/general) and the next budget cycle, Budget 2025

Each and every one of us deserves access to timely, high-quality mental health services no matter where we live.

We need your help to ensure that the Government makes mental health a priority for Budget 2025.

We want to hear your views on mental health. What changes do you think are needed? What do you think should be prioritised? Your answers will help to shape our key manifesto asks and our pre-budget submission to the Government.

Can you take two minutes to take our quick questionnaire?

What difference will my views make?

Your insights will help to shape our submission to the government in advance of Budget 2025. Now is the time for us to come together and make our voices loud in the call for investment in mental health services and supports.

The views and voices of service users, their families, friends, carers and supporters are crucial to our work at MHR. In any engagement we have with the government, the voice of lived experience is the most meaningful. Your insights will help us to make a strong case for greater investment in mental health in 2025.

What is a Pre-Budget Submission?

Every year, the government develops an annual Budget that decides how much money they will allocate to public services and programmes. We advocate for improved mental health services and supports by sending the government a Pre-Budget Submission.

This document makes the case for what services people need, what supports work, and how resources can be used to achieve better mental health outcomes for the people of Ireland. You can read our submission from last year here.

Together, we can make a difference and help people to access the mental services and supports that they need!

In solidarity and compassion,
Fiona Coyle

World Maternal Mental Health Day Campaign. Wed 1st May 2024

Let’s Connect World Maternal Mental Health Day: World Maternal Mental Health Day is an international campaign dedicated to talking about mental health problems during and up to one year after pregnancy. It’s all about raising public and professional awareness of maternal mental health difficulties, advocating for women affected, changing attitudes, and empowering women and families by helping them to access the information, care, and support they need to keep well and to recover. Recent research by the RCSI Centre for Positive Health Sciences, in collaboration with the Minding Me - DSKWW Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Working Group (DSKWW PIMHWG) revealed that 77% of respondents experienced feelings of loneliness sometimes, often or always in the three months preceding the study. In response to this, we are running the LETS CONNECT campaign. Staying connected is important for mental health. Attached please find everything you need to support the World Maternal Mental Health campaign 2024 in Dublin South, Kildare and West Wicklow on the 1st of May 2024!
