DCU's Recovery College have some upcoming open dialogue and workshops in the North
East on dual diagnosis and trauma.
Mental health and substance use issues are often related to
past trauma and unresolved trauma in peoples lives and their families. The
impact and potential for healing goes beyond the individual and
the family and is often tied up with community and health care provider
experiences. If a community and services recognise the impact of trauma on
use of substances and mental health issues and their role in reducing this
impact, the possibilities of recovery becomes more realistic.
Dual Diagnosis Community Open Dialogue - 16th April 11.00
- 1.00 St. Nicolas Gaelic Football Club, Drogheda.
The open dialogue space aims to provide the
opportunity for affected individuals, community members and service
providers to share their experiences, and look for solutions to better respond
to Dual Diagnosis in the future.
The open dialogue space aims to:-
* Raise awareness of what Dual Diagnosis means for the
North East Regional area.
* Work collectively on an approach to Dual Diagnosis in
the community.
* Strengthen community links through
networking.
Refreshments provided.
Being a trauma informed community - 2 day workshop
23rd and 24th of April - The Red Door Project, St. Mary's Convent School,
Dublin Road, Drogheda, Co. Louth.
The two day workshop will explore the meaning of normal
responses to adverse circumstances in life and implications of how
unresolved trauma in our lives. We will examine how abnormal trauma responses
by self and services and community can affect our ability to recover. The
workshop will explore how a community can be trauma informed and how agencies
and services can apply trauma informed principles in care provision.
Refreshments provided.
Dual Diagnosis Awareness 2 day workshop - 7th/8th
May/11th/12th June and 6th/9th October - Venues to be confirmed.
Day 1: Exploring the reality of dual diagnosis; perceptions,
experiences, policy, service delivery, culture and the impact on
communities.
Day 2: Best practice; what the community needs, how care can
be integrated, what needs to change, community response and
imagining possibilities.
